Overview
The main role of the Commercial Intern is to support the National Accounts Team. Daily, I process orders, arrange merchandising requests and ensure that pricing has been correctly set up for customers.
Skills
My hard skills improved a lot as I started to use Excel and PowerPoint more frequently. However, my year at L'Oréal has also helped me to improve my soft skills such as communication, self-motivation and teamwork.
Responsibilities
Yes! On my very first day, I was assigned a small role in a long-term project. I was gradually given more responsibility as I grew more familiar with the company's systems and my co-workers. The onus was very much on me to complete my tasks correctly and on time, as other people were relying on me to do so.
Support & Guidance
The support was excellent, considering that we were working from home. Anytime I was introduced to someone, they made sure to let me know that I was more than welcome to ask them questions/ come to them for help.
Culture
Everyone was very welcome from day one. The wider team were very tight-knit and made sure to stay in contact with each other throughout lockdown. However, it was also a very results driven and high-pressure environment.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement and would recommend L'Oréal to everyone. I wasn't really sure what to expect beforehand, but I definitely was brought out of my comfort zone and got a real flavour for the company.
Yes
Make sure you do your research! The application process is very intense so it's best to have a good foundational knowledge on the company and its brands.
