    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a huge amount of responsibility during my placement at L'Oreal, far beyond what I had imagined. I am thrilled at the opportunities that have been offered to me, including involvement with projects not only within the UK business, but on a global level too. Working within the CMO team gave me the opportunity to work across all brands within the L'Oreal portfolio, networking with stakeholders across all divisions in the business and really opening my eyes to the many different roles and activities that are going on in big FMCG companies such as L'Oreal. I was able to almost singlehandedly produce market reports which made huge advancements to the intelligence previously supplied by the MI team, and it was very exciting to be a part of this innovation to the reporting methodology and granularity. These were delivered straight to top management which was a great deal of responsibility and it felt great to be producing meaningful work.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had the full support of the Market Intelligence team behind me throughout my placement. The onboarding process was really great with the guidance of the previous intern to show me the ropes, and everyone was more than happy to answer any of my questions and take me through the more complicated aspects of the job. L'Oreal provide a large number of learning and support resources for us to use as we wish.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture at L'Oreal is fantastic in my opinion. It is VERY fast paced, and people are constantly striving to better their work, and achieve the best results possible. Despite high time pressures and large work loads, it doesn't feel competitive or too overwhelming as everyone is working together as a team to achieve a collective goal. I would say that the atmosphere wouldn't suit people that prefer a slower pace of working, and it can be intense at times, but for me this enabled me to hit the ground running and learn from the pool of knowledge that the L'Oreal employees have to offer.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I could not have asked for a better experience whilst on placement, and look forward to hopefully finding myself a permanent role within L'Oreal in future. I felt really included and valued by the business, despite the virtual nature of the internship due to Covid-19. The atmosphere was exciting, with new innovations constantly on the horizon, and I felt there was a real sense of community in each of the teams. I have evolved both personally and professionally from the opportunities that have been offered to me and the responsibility that I was allowed meant that I was able to really immerse myself in the role and learn as much as possible - from excel and PowerBI skills to personal communication and time management which will be essential in any future role I end up in.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • Highlight your personal strengths, and don't be afraid to express your individuality when applying to a placement and going through the interview process. You aren't expected to be a perfect fit for a role you have never done before, but demonstrate what you can offer, and how you plan to build the skills that will eventually make you the ideal candidate - let them know what L'Oreal can offer you as well as what you will offer them. Be prepared to hit the ground running, and expect tight deadlines and high pressure environment, but know that there is a lot of support from your manager, HR and a great number of resources to ensure you can settle into your role comfortably and never feel alone or out of your depth. A placement at L'Oreal has a huge amount to offer you in the way of personal and professional development, so take up every opportunity you can whilst you are there.
