Overview
As a marketing intern at SkinCeuticals in L'Oreal, my role is very cross-functional. I work across several projects in a single period alongside several teams and agencies. These projects include project launches, brand campaigns, website stockist compliancy, etc. Some of the tasks I work on include artworking, CRM designing, asset creation, code creation, end-to-end kit production and managing samples and testers.
Skills
Since the start of my internship, I have developed existing skills such as teamwork, communication and organisation. I have also acquired new skills such as performing strong presentations (by leading training sessions and talks to the wider division), working autonomously (by owning tasks and being able to make decisions based on experience) and networking (by putting in 1-2-1 meetings in with people within and outside my division to learn more about their function and role).
Responsibilities
The longer I have been in the role, the more responsibility I have been given. Throughout my placement I have been able to lead on projects and product launches. My manager allows me to own my work and sign off tasks based on my experience.
Support & Guidance
I was given an in depth handover from the intern I replaced. The L'Oreal HR team provide all interns with foundation training to learn about the organisation and what is expected of interns. Their training platforms such as MyLearning and Coursera meant I was able to upskill myself throughout my placement. For anything I was unsure of when started in the role, I received guidance on from my manager and team members.
Culture
L'Oreal has a strong intern culture which means interns are given a lot of responsibility. Whilst this is invaluable to the intern experience to ensure growth. It has also led to a lack of work life balance throughout the year. However, it is only natural for the learning curve to be steep and for more hours to have to be put in such an industry and division that is growing so fast.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement! I was blessed with a fantastic team, 2 supportive managers and in my opinion, the best division (ACD). I have learnt transferrable skills that I know will be pivotal to my final year at university and post-graduate roles.
