  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role includes optimising the design of a new or existing component as per customer requirements whilst taking into consideration process and supplier capabilities, technical standards, interfaces i.e., neighbouring engine components. Conducting design reviews with multidisciplinary team to promote design along each phase.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given responsibility from Day 1 to work on a real project for real customers. My team and supervisors have supported me since the very first day and slowly build up the nature of workload. They were very considerate to the learning process and give you time to adjust especially in these COVID times.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Support and guidance provided whenever needed. I don't remember a single time where I had to struggle to get guidance. I get regular 1:1 sessions with my manager where I am made feel welcome to share any concerns or issues I have. Subject matter experts are there to support you with any technical problems and I have had no issues when approaching people with questions.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Having been working from home, I might not be able to answer this question fully but what I can say is, despite things being online, Cummins has made me feel part of the team from Day 1. Everyone has been extremely helpful and supportive. And things would surely be the same if I was onsite.

  • Try to get in your applications well before the deadline as I know its gets quite competitive. Do read the job description and expectations of the role you're applying to understand if its what you're looking for and if relates to your career plan.
