Overview
My Typical day-to-day role is primarily Accounts Payable based dealing with supplier statements, payments and liaising with suppliers, however this varies depending on which business function your placement is based in. My role shifts once monthly in the preparation of Monthly Management accounts where i complete various 'Close the books' functions. I am also responsible for managing Manual Payments and various Material Transactions.
Skills
Across the year of my placement i have developed many different skills, both professionally and personally. My placement has gave me the experience to constantly develop my technically skills and broaden my knowledge of the finance industry and functions, aswell as technical finance knowledge and the use of various different accounting software's.
Responsibilities
As my role was a remote role due to Covid restrictions, i did not expect to be given a large amount of responsibility, especially being a student. However, from the start i was given lots of tasks that i was solely responsible for, each with a great deal of impact to the units finance functions as a whole.
Support & Guidance
Both my supervisor, the rest of my team, the student development team and the other placement students have been very supporting during my placement and have always been available to answer my questions and push me to be my best.
Culture
Cummins is a very welcoming, all inclusive company, and made everyone feel a part of the team, no matter if they were a placement student or high profile manager, everyone is treat with the same level of respect. I felt like i could always go to any one with any question and my query would be welcomed with a helpful and positive attitude.
Your Impressions
My placement has been an amazing experience filled with lots of opportunity for growth and development. I have loved every minute.
Yes
Cummins values confidence, they do not expect you to know the ins and outs of your role and all the knowledge needed, they are open to teaching you and allowing you to learn, and you should be confident in that and confident in the knowledge you have and learn along the way.
