    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I assisted the UKI Communications team with internal communications, I was responsible for sending company updates and curating and sending a by-weekly internal newsletter. Our team assisted with internal events, so I played a role in ensuring these ran smoothly. We also worked with our PR agency to amplify SAP's stories in the UK media, I wrote some opinion pieces for senior members of staff, along with a press release for an announcement.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have definitely learnt new skills and developed existing ones throughout this placement. This role improved ability to juggle multiple projects and responsibilities at once, along with increasing my understanding of how we communicate to different stakeholders. This role has taught me how to work within and team in a business setting and operate within a complex global organisation, which is very useful.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was treated as a valued member of the team, and was given a significant amount of responsibility from the offset. I was lucky to have had a great onboarding and handover from my predecessor, so although it was a bit daunting, I was prepared. I managed internal and external projects from start to finish, and I often worked with senior members of the business directly. I had great exposure to the business.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I felt safe to make mistakes within the team, the team culture was great. I also had the support from my buddy, a member of the business that I was paired with, which was a great outlet to discuss my experience along the way. I didn't actively seek further guidance or support, but I am sure if I had, it would have been available.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Overall, I really enjoyed this placement. There were some really exciting projects that I got to play a small part in, which was great. Working for a company that is really stepping up to environmental and social challenges was exciting, and meant a lot of our work was of particular interest to me. I was unsure of what to expect working virtually, but I have had a great year and I would certainly go back.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to SAP
  • I would suggest only applying to the role you are really interested in, you want to ensure it is something that you will enjoy and it comes across immediately in your application if you don't know what the job is or you're not passionate about it. I was attracted to SAP as it is using its global influence and innovation to make a change in the world, especially in the environmental space.
