Overview
Day-to-day I carry out responsibilities including full ownership and autonomy over weekly reporting, pipeline progression and forecasting of team opportunities. This involves regular collaboration with the Industry Leaders as well as with GBS and GTS stakeholders.
Skills
Yes, at IBM you have the opportunity to complete badges and e-learning courses. The options are very extensive; some of my favourites have been the Banking Industry Jumpstart badge which was a course giving a deep-dive on the banking industry, and I have also started to complete Python coding badges which I am enjoying.
Responsibilities
Yes I have been given increasing responsibility as the year has progressed. Following the team strategy change, I was given increased responsibility and autonomy over reporting, resulting in me liaising directly with IBD Europe to discuss and capture detail regard Cloud and RedHat pipeline.
Support & Guidance
IBM is very supportive, as part of the placement program you are assigned a 'Foundation Manager' as well as your task manager. Your Foundation Manager is someone you can go to for more pastoral support. Additionally, within the Foundation program there are many opportunities for you to get involve in intern projects, so will not be restricted within just your core role. My core team were also very supportive, making an effort to build relationships despite the whole year being virtual. My team has always encouraged my progress and also been understanding of me reaching out to external projects as well.
Culture
The company culture is great, everyone I have come across has always been helpful. You are very much encouraged to be proactive and network to get involved in projects, it is very much a culture where even senior IBMers are accessible and open if you are proactive enough to reach out.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement, my team has been so welcoming and supportive of my progression. I have also enjoyed meeting many like-minded interns, by working on many different projects. Across the year I have learned so much through my job, badges and using the IBM technology.
Yes
Make sure to make the most of the GiveBack project opportunities and IBM Foundation communities as early on in your placement as you can in order to start building your network and experiences that you can use in your application.
