Overview
I managed the Skincare Account for ASDA. This means communicating with ASDA on a regular basis to discuss the portfolio and promotional strategy. I also managed internal forecasts and worked with the wider internal team to meet deadlines. I had development opportunities to improve my leadership skills and lead teams and projects throughout the year.
Skills
I have had a great deal of responsibility on my placement which has been amazing. I have been able to develop my communication and leadership skills working within the wider team. I also worked on my negotiation skills through commercial conversations with ASDA. Outside of my day to day role, I also worked on the digital team to improve my social media management skills.
Responsibilities
I was the sole owner of the ASDA Skincare account which meant I became the expert of the account. This was amazing responsibility and ownership that I have not seen in other placements. Despite this responsibility, I was still given support from my line manager and team when I needed it.
Support & Guidance
Although I spent my placement working virtually, I still had an amazing level of support from my line manager and wider team. I never felt alone in my role and I knew I could always go to someone if I needed to. The HR Careers team were also there to support you if you needed it. Everyone at Unilever was open and willing to help.
Culture
Amazing company culture! Although I worked at home for my entire placement, I still felt very involved in the company culture and loved the atmosphere. Many fun events were put on each month which united people whilst working at home, some events were educational and some were just pure fun & excitement! Everyone believes in putting in the most effort they can and becoming the best versions of themselves.
Your Impressions
I loved my placement year. The level of responsibility I was given was phenomenal! I was given opportunities to develop certain skills that I had not previously worked on. All of these tasks were underpinned by an amazing level of support so I never felt alone.
Yes
Purpose is very important at Unilever. Even if you don't know your purpose, having an understanding about what drives you/what you are interested is very important. A strong understanding about your aspirations & drives would really help you when applying & for future development.
