Overview
As interns we gained a deeper understanding of the firm and their culture through having meetings with many of the firms international Department Heads as well as presentations from important programmes on Diversity and Inclusivity, the importance of health and well-being and their expansive pro-bono and ESG sector. We also had the opportunity to have open discussions with trainees to gain further insight into life and training at the firm which was hugely helpful.
Skills
I have certainly managed to further develop my ability in public speaking over zoom as well as enhancing my team work skills, attempting to present on a previously reasonably unfamiliar market.
Business Insight
It was particularly interesting to learn of the business markets and roles available at such an international level. being a global firm, we were learning about everywhere in the world rather than focusing on domestic transactions with domestic clients as is customary in many of the domestic firms in Ireland.
Culture
I was immensely impressed by DLA's culture and general atmosphere which was as clear as day. It was obvious from day 1 that they're a company with a very real perspective on life, who strive to operate in the 21st century and are very aware of the importance of evolution and change. What's more is that I instantly felt as if they genuinely cared about their work and their employees, a theory further proven when they explained their multiple programmes promoting gender, racial, LGBTQ+, ability equality as well as their supporting parents and mental health supports. They genuinely care about ESG and pro-bono work rather than just doing it to tick the box and being able to advertise it on the website. I cannot express how impressed I am by their very palpable culture.
Your Impressions
It was a hugely enjoyable insight. Not only was it genuinely fun but hugely informative and i feel much better informed and equipped for the next steps. I am so thankful that I thought to apply in the first place and was lucky enough to be selected.
Yes
To apply for one and to really try your best with the application because it is absolutely worth it. Try your best but remain true to yourself as it is clear they are interested in people and have no specific roles to fill as such.
