Overview
As a brand assistant, my role entailed community management of our artistic community - including running the brand's UK social channels, distributor marketing including provision of assets and campaign execution, briefing campaign content to our DMI, events organisation (all digital due to Covid) and analysis of monthly sell-out data. Weekly my responsibilities also included admin for the team including raising POs, NCOs of stock and organising external meetings.
Skills
This year was full of opportunities to learn and grow. I took advantage of L'Oreal's coursera membership and completed courses on time management course and Excel. A professional skill I developed this year was commercial acumen, from monthly analysis of customer data. My communicated skills also excelled this year, starting a placement virtually meant I learnt a new way of connecting with colleagues remotely.
Responsibilities
Being within a small team, and growing brand I had a very large amount of responsibility which was challenging but rewarding. I was equipped with the resources to lead projects, run customer meetings on my own and manage our social community. This required me to think on my feet and use my initiative which allowed me to grow professionally and personally.
Support & Guidance
I had weekly 1:1s with my manager which enabled us to talk through my work load and prioritise where necessary. We then had weekly meetings with our team where I could reach of for support. There was also a mentorship system and lots of opportunities to give and receive support from other interns which was particularly beneficial in the first few months.
Culture
Collaborative, friendly and very enthusiastic for innovation. Although I only spent a limited amount of time in the office due to Covid circumstances there was still a great sense of community and lots of wellbeing, charity and divisional virtual events to take part in.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. Although it was predominantly virtual and therefore not how a typical year at L'Oreal would have been spent, I had an incredible 12 months working with a supportive team of people who inspired me every day. My job was challenging and rewarding, enabling my to grow professionally and personally. I really enjoyed that my role gave me vast exposure to all brand functions including commercial and education areas.
