Responsibilities
Yes, as a PE intern at SAP you are expected to take ownership of key PE processes and you are expected to produce accurate and reliable reporting for the management. I was also asked to maintain various data sets and data repositories to ensure that all stakeholders have accurate up to date information at all times. You will also have key responsibilities for various projects such as PE team events, customer events and innovation projects in and outside of PE.
Support & Guidance
The support and guidance here at SAP are excellent. From the start of your placement, you are assigned a "buddy" who acts as your mentor for the duration of your placement. In my case, my mentor was a former intern at SAP, and he really understood the challenges of a placement year. The support from management was really good as well. Despite PE often being a high-pressure job it rarely comes across internally as the team is so well composed and professional. During my placement year, my team was going through a lot of changes internally as a result I had a change of managers three times but that didn't change the level of support and engagement I got. All my managers were fantastic people and I enjoyed working for them.
Culture
There is a real sense of teamwork and the culture within the teams that I got to work for was very positive. Despite going through difficult times due to the pandemic everyone pulled together with the support of management. Everyone is willing to help out and support each other. As an intern, you will never be too scared or nervous to approach anyone for help or to ask questions (as silly as the question might seem!)
Your Impressions
Due to the pandemic, my entire placement year was online which tainted a big part of the intern experience at SAP. I am confident that under normal circumstances I would have enjoyed my placement year a lot more. Despite the pandemic, SAP did a great job in shifting towards an online placement year. I was well supported by my team and the placements teams throughout. Overall I enjoyed my placement year and came out of it having learned a lot and feeling more accomplished than before.
Yes
If you are applying at SAP for a placement year please remember that you will not be expected to demonstrate amazing SAP product/industry knowledge but rather an enthusiasm to learn and good interpersonal skills.
