Overview
Within the role we would complete a set of assessed tasks each day for a particular legal team. Before beginning each task we would be briefed by an individual within the legal team and were encouraged to ask any questions. There would be comfort breaks provided and also talks from different legal teams to break up the day and allow us to understand more about the firm.
Skills
I have learnt new skills in how to network and work effectively in a team with new individuals. My analytical skills improved greatly alongside my ability to process a lot of information at once, this occurred mainly as a result of task work including reading long legal documents.
Responsibilities
Yes, throughout the scheme we were able to complete tasks individually and in a set time frame. We were also required to present ideas we had on how Gateley could improve and find time to brainstorm ideas with our team to discuss this.
Support & Guidance
There was a lot of support, we had individual meetings with our applied office where we got to have a chat with a Senior Associate working there and ask questions. On the first day there was allocated time for people to flag any technical issues and throughout the week Graduate Recruitment maintained communication with us. Within tasks our assigned supervisor was always on hand to chat and answer any queries we had.
Culture
The company culture was extremely inclusive, kind and social. Throughout the week all my supervisors emphasised the flexible and understanding nature of the firm. Within talks Gateley's commitment to diversity and inclusion was clear, with it being the first law firm to sign the Halo Code, having a host of local charity initiatives and a clear focus on the well being of their staff.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Gateley legal. The scheme was filled with fun socials, challenging tasks, and enthusiastic individuals who all wanted to help us understand more about the firm.
Yes
Be yourself, the firm really prioritises learning about applicants beyond grades! Take time to complete the application form, make it genuinely what you feel in response to the questions.
