Overview
The role of a commercial intern involves the detail of retail analysis, sell in and sell out of goods and reactive activity to address the current retail landscape. By communicating with the wider team and brands, your role is to support activations and our field team and beauty advisors instore.
Skills
The skills developed in a placement year are invaluable and will take away in my future career. These include agility, resilience, communication and presentation. The biggest skillset I have developed would be my confidence and therefore the autonomy and ownership to lead projects.
Responsibilities
As I was placed in a small team, the ownership and responsibility of accounts and tasks were given me from day 1. With this came lots of support to ask questions and help if it was needed.
Support & Guidance
The support I was given was above and beyond my expectation, with a 3, 6 and 12 month review. In addition, I had a weekly meeting with my three closest colleagues where I would discuss my development opportunities and tasks that week.
Culture
The general atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with a big focus on networking. We are offered weekly exercise classes including yoga and have an extended lunch break for no meeting times.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement year so much and believe it has been invaluable to the start of a career path. This was beyond my expectations especially as I had my onboarding virtually. I believe that this placement year has set me up for a graduate role at L'Oreal or elsewhere taking new skills with me.
Yes
As a company that operates on such a large scale, it is important to look at the whole operation rather than the division you are interested in. Make sure you also look at the long term goals of L'Oreal and the retail climate.
