Overview
The one-week Virtual Summer Internship consisted mostly of listening to presentations by senior partners at the firm and asking questions. There was also a group presentation that was prepared throughout the week and delivered on the final day.
Skills
I developed public speaking skills by taking part in the group presentation.
Business Insight
It was really interesting hearing about the opportunities at DLA Piper and all the activities that trainees can get involved in. The firm is very forward-thinking and comes across as a very exciting place to work.
Culture
The company culture is very supportive and everyone at the firm seems down to earth and approachable.
Your Impressions
I did enjoy the insight. I think we were limited in the amount of practical legal work experience that we could gain during the internship simply as it was completed virtually, but this couldn't really be avoided given the current situation. The graduate recruitment team really put a lot of effort into making people feel supported and at ease during the programme.
Yes
The advice given over the course of the internship was just to relax and be yourself. The firm seems to value people as individuals and so I think letting your personality come across both during the assessment centre and internship is a good tip.
