Overview
Initially begin with administrative tasks (e.g. checking the accuracy of sell or buy orders). Also calling providers for policy information so a lot of time is spent on the phone. Eventually introduced to writing advice reports for clients and adjusting portfolios based on investment team advice.
Skills
Developed attention to detail and ability to talk on the phone to new people. Time management also improved.
Responsibilities
A good level of responsibility is given by the end of the placement. The level of responsibility develops at a decent pace through the year as you become more skilled. You are trusted to manage your own tasks and to seek work as and when you have the capacity to do so.
Support & Guidance
Received plenty of support and guidance. Line managers often check in with you informally or call meetings to discuss how you are getting on.
Culture
The atmosphere was good. Everyone is hard working but also social and easy to get on with. The open-plan office environment means that everyone is accessible for help and advice rather than certain people being in separate offices.
Your Impressions
I had a great time during my placement year. This was mainly due to the great people I worked with which is a good reflection of the Mazars recruitment process. The workload starts fairly easily but develops at a good pace. I would say there is an appropriate balance of being challenged but not overwhelmed. There were plenty of opportunities to ask for help or offer feedback on the scheme.
Yes
To stand out I would say Mazars looks for certain personalities traits such as being a team player. Being intelligent and hardworking is not necessarily enough. You have to be willing to help others and learn from others.
