Overview
My role involves working with the wider business to attract & recruit diverse talent. I manage a varied range of recruitment pipelines and guide candidates through the various stages of the application processes. A big part of my role as an intern is to host assessment days and brief the candidates before hand. I also deliver skills sessions and events to students from schools right through to universities & some partner organisations. No 2 days are the same. I have had the opportunity to get involved with various other teams at PwC such as the Social Mobility team & the Inclusion Community & Wellbeing team on a range of projects.
Skills
I have picked up many new tech skills such as using new recruitment platforms, alteryx, PwC's virtual park (a platform we use to deliver events). I have also been able to develop my presentation skills. I am now much more confident at delivering sessions to a large audience. I have had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills & bring my knowledge, innovation and insight to create distinctive value for our clients and the firm.
Responsibilities
I was given the same responsibility as any other member of the team such as the senior associates. During my first month at the firm I was given the opportunity to help support and later lead a major project for the team. This progressed onto me being able to recourse myself onto other work streams that I found interesting and would help me develop my skill set & competencies.
Support & Guidance
When you join the firm you're given a buddy & a career coach to help guide you through your placement & teach you about the role and the business. My support network was extended to the wider recruitment team. Everyone was always happy to help and just a message away. Despite the pandemic and lockdown, I was able to work collaboratively with everyone regardless of location.
Culture
PwC's culture is very relaxed and open. It isn't like what you would imagine when you hear "The Big 4" PwC has a culture of encouragement & empowerment. The firm nurtures all employees regardless of grade or experience, and I feel as though this was felt across all the businesses touchpoints with it's people. I found the firm to be very inclusive & ambitious having employees at its core enabling a caring, agile & flexible approach to working.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed having the chance to go above and beyond my job role and experiencing working with other lines of services to help me develop stakeholder relationships. Working on D&I initiatives was a project I enjoyed as it is something I am very passionate about. Having the opportunity to implement changes within & take action in this space was a bonus. It was the extra things like this that made the experience really enjoyable.
Yes
Research the firm. Look as all of the schemes and initiatives the firm has & mention this during your interview. It shows you're interested in the firm and well researched. Use the employability hub to gain hints and tips with the application process. Make the most of the skills sessions the recruitment team hosts. These are regular events and are very informative.
