Overview
I shadowed a colleague at PwC; discussing her field, joining internal and external calls, learning about the work she did. It was a total immersion into her role, observing what her working life was like. I also had sessions with the PwC recruiters, learning about the extra community at PwC and what other opportunities and support they offered.
Skills
Yes, I have both expanded and developed my skill set. I gained further confidence when meeting and talking to others, sometimes in daunting situations - when meeting a partner or major client for instance. I learnt vastly more about the Tax line of service, and what working in tax is like - both with numerical insight and a qualitative understanding.
Business Insight
It was extremely eye-opening. I really enjoy learning about the firm as a whole, and their specific strategies and differences that make them unique. More specifically, I greatly enjoyed understanding the area my buddy was in, and I now would love the opportunity to pursue a similar career myself.
Culture
The company culture was hugely welcoming, I felt as if I belonged there immediately. There is supportive and inclusive atmosphere at the firm, and each member is extremely open and honest.
Your Impressions
Hugely. Although I expected the insight to be invaluable, I did not expect it to be as inspiring as it was. I thoroughly enjoyed each part of the day and was excited for the next. I would have loved to stay for longer and done more while on the programme.
Yes
Do it! It's so much fun and teaches you so much - the experience is so important. Approach everything with an open mind, and push yourself to excel - it'll be worth it.
