Overview
My day to day role involved keeping up to date with KPIs whilst working on other projects alongside. KPIs reports include weekly and monthly, alongside this, other long-term projects usually took up time in my day to day tasks. Some of the projects include maintaining site communications, processing warehouse damages, participating in Peoples voice campaign and deploying ESH life risks project.
Skills
I had the opportunity to learn many new skills including the use of different softwares i.e SAP. However i significantly developed many existing skills including; presenting, communication, networking. I had many opportunities to present in front of different audiences, therefore i think my presenting skills have developed the most.
Responsibilities
After picking up my initial responsibilities when began settling into my role, many of my colleagues trusted me to begin working leading other projects alongside my daily responsibilities. For example I was given the responsibility to lead 'go green' project to replace plastic bags used within DC with more environmentally friendly grass paper bags.
Support & Guidance
I was the only intern within my team , so received a great amount of great amount of support and guidance from all my colleagues. working with many of them on different projects, I gained invaluable amount of experience and learned different things from them all. i had weekly 1-1 meetings my manager to discuss my progress, I am so grateful for them to have made me feel so welcomed and for trying to give me as much exposure to different things as possible.
Culture
One of the best aspects about my placement was the people I worked with, I was unfortunate that I had to work from home majority of the time due to Covid. However, the times I was in the office, I tried to make the most of it by collaborating and working with different colleagues. I am very grateful each and everyone of them.
Your Impressions
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year, I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work with. I received great exposure outside my work department with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across divisions. Also, considering the circumstances, I had a great working from home/office balance, working in the office 2-3 days a week was great for me to get to know everyone and build professional relationships.
Yes
One advice I would give to anyone applying to L'Oréal is to be true, authentic self and be open minded to learning new things and working with different colleagues. Everyone has something, they could team you. Being open minded and respectful is important, other skills can always be learned and developed.
