    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The Insight Programme involved an introduction to KPMG and the Technolgy service line. I shadowed people from different areas of Technology, which allowed me to observe what the job entailed and ask questions. This gave me a good insight into the role. Furthermore, we met lots of people from KPMG and from our cohort too. This provided an opportunity to get a feel for the company's culture, and get to know what our potential future colleagues are like. The Insight Programme was a total of 3 days, with an assessment on the final day.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have developed my communication skills by communicating virtually with various people and speaking in front of large groups of strangers. I also developed my technical capabilities by improving my knowledge of technology. As it was only two days, we weren't offered many training specific workshops on improving specific skills. Shadowing people on rotation gave me a greater understanding of the service line and culture of KPMG, which was invaluable in deciding if the role is suitable for me.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • We received an introduction to KPMG and the divisions within technology. I shadowed people from cybersecurity, cloud and analytics which gave a good overview of some of the specialisations available at KPMG. We had many opportunities to ask questions. We had many talks about the technology in general, as well as the experience of women in technology. As the insight programme was targeted at women, this alleviated some of the concerns about being a woman in tech, and it was inspirational to hear from so many successful women in a vastly male dominated field.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • KPMG was very welcoming and made us feel comfortable right away. The people leading the sessions were friendly, open to questions and informative. This made me feel valued and unafraid to participate. Both the recruitment team and the technology team hosted different sessions. There were no social events or sports club as it was a short 3 day programme. We did not get to do any actual work. Everyone in the programme was enthusiastic and keen to engage fully.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I very much enjoyed the insight programme. It was fun to meet so many people that are interested in technology, and I learned so much about the application of technology in a company like KPMG. I am now aware of the skills required to succeed in this industry and gained a valuable insight into what a potential graduate role in technology would involve. Despite it being virtual, it was extremely well organised and expectations of us were made clear. I would definitely go back.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG
  • I would encourage you to spend time preparing for the psychometric tests. Practice will definitely improve your chances. In the video interview, be calm and methodical and do your best. You do not need any prior knowledge to apply to this programme. The assessment centre was virtual and involved an interview. Remember the interviewer is a real person, and I actually enjoyed my interview! It's a chance to have a conversation about tech with someone who is an expert!
