Overview
Shop queries, answering questions from other sites and reporting back on shop findings. Working on long term shop process improvement projects and larger investigations. Digging into data and presenting findings on a wide variety of projects
Skills
Engineering mindset is heavily developed. Lots of presenting to peers and managers. General engineering skills such as data management, investigation and technical knowledge.
Responsibilities
Yes but sometimes reluctant to give interns too much responsibility. Depends on the specific project but usually pretty independent.
Support & Guidance
Depends heavily on your manager and their style. I didn’t get a lot unless I asked. Had to try hard to get all the information I needed for projects.
Culture
Bad atmosphere and culture on site. Very bad management and general morale extremely low. Hard to tell whether due to COVID and all the reductions but bad management certainly doesn’t help. No one on shop really has any time for the interns so can be very difficult. Seems like most people don’t enjoy their job which rubs off.
Your Impressions
Some good bits and experiences which will be very useful. Have not enjoyed the year overall. Hard to say whether due to COVID or not, limiting social contact but the year has been very difficult at times.
No
Know about jet engines and how they work for the interview. Research MRO processes and the life cycle of an engine.
