Overview
Each week was spent in a different department of the firm, where you are assigned a supervisor and trainee buddy as well as set tasks to complete throughout the week. Your day will be spent getting to know your team, completing your tasks and attending planned events such as learning sessions, talks and networking events. The tasks were a real mix of research and legal work, mirroring real-life tasks undertaken by trainees.
Skills
Yes; I strongly developed my writing, research and structuring skills in undertaking the tasks. I learned how to answer questions in a concise and commercially relevant way, which will be useful to clients as well as lawyers. I also learnt good communication and team-work skills through my supervisor's feedback, developing my ability to keep my team updated and manage expectations.
Business Insight
Really empowering. I felt truly a part of the firm and able to clearly picture a long-term future there, but at the same time, learning so much about the firm's business is a transferable area of knowledge; I felt like the scheme helped me better understand the overall business of law firms.
Culture
Second to none. Culture is the firm's selling point - the people are truly supportive and forthcoming, as well as genuinely up for a laugh!
Your Impressions
It was a truly dynamic experience - very intense but very rewarding. I was so sad for it to end!
Yes
Don't be afraid to show your personality. RPC is a truly inclusive firm that values genuine passion - they want individuals, not the "perfect" candidate.
