Overview
I assist with the desk on an ad-hoc basis, meet with team members to better understand the bank, I have a desk project to complete during my desk rotation to demonstrate the skills I have learnt on my rotation. Plenty of coffee meetings with team members to learn from as well
Skills
I have been able to improve my knowledge of all the products offered by the bank, understand key considerations in credit analysis, improve my networking skills while working remote.
Responsibilities
Due to remote learning and busy, It was initially difficult to be involved in work and due to the short desk rotation, this meant you naturally cant take on too much work. But as you get to know the team more, they provide you with more tasks to help around.
Support & Guidance
Remote working poses a difficulty with networking and reaching out to new people you have never spoke with, however, I found that people always offered themselves to answer any questions and have been very helpful in offering themselves up, even during a busy time for the bank.
Culture
The interns have been offered to join in a softball tournament to meet all the team even during a remote placement. I have also been reaching out to members of varying seniority and all have been welcoming and made time to speak with me, something that was greatly appreciated.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed the experience working across the structured finance summer internship, meeting so many people across the bank with really insightful training and industry insights from the teams.
Yes
Be yourself, be confident and be inquisitive and eager to learn. I have found you aren't expected to know everything, but more importantly to have the right attitude is paramount. I also found that ensure you have demonstrated areas of being proactive during university helped greatly in my application.
