Overview
Eight week summer internship with induction for three days, two placement days per week getting involved in business projects and attending meetings organised by placement manager. Other three days involve attending development sessions, business speaker sessions, working on business project in a team and a social impact (charity fundraising) project and having time for self-led learning and reflection.
Skills
Yes, for sure. There is a clear focus on developing your skills/behaviours not only for the duration of the internship but for your career in general through learning and understanding the Critical People Capabilities (CPCs) of the bank. Lots of learning opportunities in bank through NatWest Academy, Workday Learning and CPB Academy (specific for Commercial Banking programme).
Business Insight
Really insightful as we got to attend business speaker sessions where they showed the variety of business areas/roles available.
Culture
Really friendly and inclusive, they did well in welcoming us and keeping us engaged throughout the internship. They really are a purpose-led organisation with clear goals about climate change and making sure that customers are happy with products/services.
Your Impressions
So far have enjoyed the internship a lot as I've learnt more about the business, the bank and myself in terms of skills and behaviours i have/do and where I can improve. I think the Capability Checker 2.0 was incredibly insightful in seeing where my strengths and development areas are. In asset management especially, my manager and wider team have made sure to welcome me and teach me about the business area and processes.
Yes
Definitely apply here if you want the work you do to truly mean something and align with your values/principles. Research the company beforehand and make sure you know what they do, what they are changing and what they hope to achieve in the future. The company provide so many opportunities for development, learning and progression so if that's what you're looking for- apply!
