Overview
On a day to day basis, I worked for various auditing engagement teams for multi-million pound external clients. I was involved in completing various EGAs. I also participated in a project, where I was developing a business and marketing strategy for a social enterprise. Throughout my day, I also had training courses to complete.
Skills
I have learnt many new skills. I do not study accounting or finance at University, and therefore, I developed my business and accounting knowledge, and I learnt how to use various auditing methodologies. I have developed my time-management and organisation skills, due to the various different tasks I had to complete in a day. I also developed my confidence and communication skills, as I was working with lots of different people at different grades.
Business Insight
I received a lot of knowledge regarding the business. I completed various training courses, and spoke to lots of people at different grades within PwC. They provided a fantastic insight about their career paths, and the opportunities for my development, which seem extensive. I would have liked to have learnt a bit more about the other lines of service at PwC, however.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere was actually something I was concerned about before I started the internship. I was expecting it to be very 'corporate', but in fact, it was a very welcoming and inclusive environment. Everyone I met and worked with made me feel very comfortable, and they were all willing to answer my questions and provide me with support in my work.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the summer internship at PwC. It was a fantastic insight into the company and my line of service. I also felt very welcomed by my colleagues, and I felt that I was contributing real value to the team. The extra curricular and networking activities that they organised were also really helpful. The only downside was the fact that the internship was virtual, but this was due to Covid-19.
Yes
Regarding the assessment day, I would say it's really important to be yourself. Be confident in your abilities, and just get involved. PwC look for people who are good communicators and can build good and positive relationships with people. Ensure to get your point across, but also listen to others and encourage their points of view.
