Overview
Day to day I attended numerous sessions on consulting and life at EY and also worked on a consulting case study project with a group across the two weeks. The sessions varied, from service line learning to learning soft skills such as presentation and communication skills. We also had mentor and buddy sessions.
Skills
I have learnt more communication and presentation skills for presenting to clients, particularly about my natural style of communication and the potential benefits and drawbacks of this. I was then taught to be aware of my weaker points and be able to work to minimise these weaknesses in the workplace.
Responsibilities
Not a huge amount as the internship was only 2 weeks and was online, rather than 6 weeks in person. I worked on a group case study in which we had mentors to ask any questions to but other than that were pretty much left to our own devices so I had a big responsibility for our final presentation.
Support & Guidance
I was given a lot of support. Before I joined, I was assigned a buddy who I could ask any questions to. During the internship, I was also assigned a mentor who I met weekly and was given mentors from by sub-division to work with on the case study presentation.
Culture
The company culture was so friendly and welcoming. We were really encouraged to ask any questions we had and give our honest feedback on the internship. Everyone, from recent grads to partners were so lovely and we could honestly ask anyone any questions or queries that we had during the programme.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement, it was really interesting and I definitely learnt a lot during my time. It was a varied programme and provided us with knowledge about EY more generally, and about our specific service line. We also were able to work in a group and get to know the other interns which I really enjoyed.
Yes
Take the time to prepare for the tests at the start of the application and also at interview/the assessment centre, make sure you have prepared both your competencies (core competencies are on the EY website) and your motivations for why you want to join EY and your chosen service line
