Overview
Online intern, which had to watch several learning sessions about the company as well as work on a case study. The case study required to work in a team and meet an EY employee and EY mentor.
Skills
I have strengthened my communication and presentation skills through different activities.
Responsibilities
As we were not exposed to client information we did not feel like we were given much responsibility. Arguably some responsibility stemmed from doing a case study presentation but mostly the internship was not very engaging. On a positive side this allowed students to have a good life work balance
Support & Guidance
We have received a lot of support from the mentor and case study supervisor, which was extremely helpful. However, case study information as well as information regarding learning sessions came late or at the last minute, which felt rather disorganised.
Culture
Company culture appealed to me. The interns who participated alongside seemed extremely friendly and thoughtful. The EY team appeared the same way, it was a real pleasure to meet everyone. Moreover, you could clearly see that the company cares about their team as well as other important issues such as diversity, sustainability etc.
Your Impressions
Overall it was a pleasant experience. I did enjoy hearing more about the company and getting to know my team. A major disadvantage was that other interns and I felt that we are unaware of what everyday work of a graduate student would look line in the service line. The case study work did not resemble what we would actually do on the job. Therefore, we all felt that we are going into graduate role a little blind sided.
Yes
Take initiative to get involved at EY events/internship application. Starting early and getting to know the company well will give you the best chance of success.
