    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The virtual summer internship lasted 2 weeks and day-to-day we had talks / Q and As / panel sessions in the mornings and in the afternoons we were in a group and worked on a case study. Our case study was then presented to our mentor near the end of the internship. We also had some fun activities thrown in, such as quizzes and a virtual escape room.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, we were given learning sessions which were designed to develop a certain skill. A highlight was the presentation learning session, this gave us lots of tips on how to give a good presentation and how to present virtually. Other learning sessions included (but not limited to): business etiquette, personal brand, emotional intelligence

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Because this internship was virtual, we were not given any actual work to do for EY. Instead we worked on a case study in groups for a made up client. Within this we were given responsibility, we had to work through the case as a group and then present back to our mentor. Our mentor was there to help us along the way but ultimately the responsibility was with us.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Lots of support and guidance! We had talks with partners, students, people from the recruitment team etc. On top of this each group was assigned a mentor and a buddy. We met with both numerous times where we could ask general questions about working for EY and more specific questions on how to complete our case study. Our mentor also gave us feedback after our presentation.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was extremely friendly and welcoming. Throughout the 2 weeks we had talks from people across the whole company and they were all very warm and friendly. EY promoted their ‘people culture’ throughout the internship and in turn created a great atmosphere for us interns, as well as letting us know more about the company culture

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed the internship, it was modified to be online and although we may have missed out on going to the office and doing real work, they made up for that in abundance with the opportunity to speak to lots of people across the firm, our fellow interns and enabled us to develop our skills.

  • 7. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • Be yourself! EY promotes inclusivity and diversity and so the best thing to do on your application is to just be yourself. I was able to get an offer for the internship through a first year Discover EY event so I would definitely recommend applying to those in first year of university.
