    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The day-to-day schedule consisted of a huge variety of sessions, such as a series of insightful talks from a range of both internal and external speakers, question and answer sessions with trainees, associates and partners currently employed by EY, and case study workshop where I would collaborate with fellow interns at EY and work on a case study appropriate to my service line. The day typically started at 10am and finished at 4pm, with breaks in between.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I found that the speaker sessions were very insightful and enabled me to reflect on and consider my soft skills. It made me more aware of my strengths and weaknesses and what I can do to improve. The case study sessions were really interactive and allowed me to receive feedback from my mentor and buddy who were working in the department I was wanting to work in. The question and answer sessions also allowed me to understand where I could improve.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • There were numerous sessions which discussed both the nature of EY as a whole, such as its global strategy and different service lines, as well as specific sessions specifically concerning Assurance. We were given plenty of information about the potential future options and pathways relating to working in the chosen service line, including the employee benefits one would receive, the potential volunteering possibilities, as well as the possibility to gain qualification to help us develop.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I found the internship very engaging and it clearly demonstrated the people-centric company culture of the firm. All the leaders and graduate recruitment members were incredibly friendly and willing to help in any way possible. The multiple talks based on employee wellbeing and working flexibility gave me the impression as well that EY was a place where everyone is welcome and where anyone can succeed. I was impressed they managed to create such an atmosphere on a virtual platform.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I found the EY virtual summer internship programme incredibly rewarding, enjoyable and informative. The healthy variety of different sessions meant that I was constantly stimulated and was never losing enthusiasm or getting bored. That doesn't mean it was always easy and not challenging; for example, the case study really made us rack our brains and prompted us to process a lot of information in order to create targets and collaborate to succeed as a team.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • EY is very keen on creating a culture and atmosphere that is inclusive to all. Therefore you should think about what the firm demands of you as a person, and to be ready to back yourself up by describing different experiences from work experience or extra-curricular activities. The application process entails many different phases so it's important to remain resilient and prepare appropriately for the corresponding phase. Always remain composed and don't pretend to be someone you are not.
