Overview
The virtual experience involved talks and learning sessions most mornings and then most afternoons were spent working in smaller groups on a case study. The talks ranged from being about EY, our specific service lines, and the qualifications and opportunities available, to wellbeing and personal development. We also had external speakers talk to us as well as some fun activities to break up the sessions. We were given an hour for lunch each day and also a fifteen minute break in the afternoon
Skills
I was able to develop my team work and collaborative skills through our case study work. We were also given several excellent talks on how to develop a range of skills including presentation skills, confidence with clients and also emotional intelligence. These talks were really insightful and engaging and helped me work on skills I hadn't previously given much thought too. The case study work also helped me to familiarise myself with what a role in audit may entail as well as introduce me to some industry specific terminology
Business Insight
We had several talks that outlined the structure of EY and also the specific service lines we had applied to. These were very useful as they helped to get a sense of the culture of EY and what life at EY is really like. It also provided lots of details about how to build a career with the company and various different career paths and opportunities. We were given plenty of opportunities to ask questions
Culture
Everyone was really friendly and helpful, we had countless opportunities to ask questions and engage with the experience which was lovely. We were also provided with lots of support and I felt as though we were really valued. It was clear that everyone, including interns and the recruitment team, were really excited for the internship and so there was a nice atmosphere. EY is know for its people culture and this was made exceedingly clear
Your Impressions
At first I was a bit skeptical as I was very excited to be doing the 6 week in person internship however the virtual experience has been excellent. There were lots of opportunities for us to network and get involved despite it being online. I also liked the fact that the internship covered a range of topics as this meant that each day was different which kept things interesting. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming and this helped me to get settled in very quickly.
Yes
The application process is actually quite nice, just take your time with the questions and give detailed answers. Everyone I encountered as part of my interview process was really lovely and made me feel very welcome so try not to stress. To make the most of the internship, ask lots of questions and try your best to get involved wherever possible. Make sure you take time to connect with people and make lots of notes
