    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Most days consisted of learning in the morning and case study sessions in the afternoon. Learning sessions were either presentations or Q&A sessions from members of EY or external speakers. Case study sessions took place in small groups with other interns from your service line and built up to a final assessed presentation to members of the firm.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I developed my teamwork and leadership skills in the case study sessions - I didn't know anybody in my group prior to working with them, so I had to develop these quickly (especially because we only had 7 hours for the case study!). The internship also helped me build my confidence in a professional environment.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was great to get an insight, as I had no prior knowledge of actuarial or consulting. However, actuarial interns joined the consulting (one of the four major service lines at EY) learning sessions, but these sessions often said little about actuarial at EY and how it fits into consulting. We had to seek out learning with members of the actuarial team separate from these sessions as a result.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Incredibly welcoming and supportive! EY prides itself in its culture and people in its marketing and I really do feel like this is justified. Everybody I met on the internship was genuinely lovely, including the other interns and members of the firm. If you have any questions there will be somebody who will be happy to answer!

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed it! It was a very packed programme with lots to learn and some fun sessions (Kahoot quizzes!) sprinkled in there too. Sometimes the many presentations were a lot to take in all at once but still very valuable, and I appreciate there's only so much you can do in a virtual internship. But overall it was a really fun insight!

  • 7. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • EY has a very thorough application process, so make sure you sufficiently prepare for each stage! I'd also recommend that if you're making multiple applications, and haven't been through an online application process before, that you complete assessments for your preferred role LAST. Job simulations (used by EY) are very scary, and if you're new to this process you don't want to blow your attempt on your favourite internship!
