Overview
Each day was different but consisted of a similar general structure. Talks were attended, with talks on various topics from mental health and wellbeing to personal brand. There was also multiple Q&A sessions with tax professionals from EY. The afternoons typically consisted of case study sessions, where we worked in a group.
Skills
I grew in confidence throughout the internship, before I was quite nervous about working with people I did not know. I think my communication and presentation skills improved, especially with help from the sessions on improving these. I also evaluated how to improve resilience, all of which will help at work.
Business Insight
Throughout the internship the Q&A sessions gave opportunity to learn about potential roles at EY, and what these would include. There were also presentations about EY and what EY stands for, so this was good to gain a deeper understanding of EY as a company. A lot of information was given about working for EY.
Culture
The culture was is welcoming and it felt like we belonged, which is important to EY. Everyone was welcoming and answered as many questions as they could, and no question was a silly question. The culture put us at ease, and definitely contributed to a good internship. The culture also filtered down to our case study group, which was nice as we all worked well together.
Your Impressions
I had a really good time during the internship. I learnt so much, not only about EY as a company, but also about the tax industry, and also learnt more about myself. The culture was amazing, and contributed to a fun internship, that I did not want to end. I thoroughly enjoyed the internship, and cannot say enough positives about it.
Yes
To be yourself. Do not pretend to be someone you are not as you may pretend to fit in with the culture and then hate it. Sometimes the reason you do not get a position is the company is not the right fit for you. Be yourself, do your research and do not overthink things.
