Overview
The day-to-day consisted mainly of talks and case study working. The internship started with introduction to the firm and service line, and the topic of the talks throughout the programme ranged from team building to self development to knowledge on the firm and industry. We were also assigned to a team to work on a case study and we usually have daily case study working sessions on our own or with a mentor from EY. On most days, we would usually have a fun activity session of Kahoot quizzes or other games.
Skills
Yes, definitely! After attending numerous talks throughout the internship, I have learned so much about myself, working in a team and about the firm and service line in general. Some examples of the learning sessions were on personal branding, resilience, highest performing teams, presentation skills, business etiquettes, and emotional intelligence. Through working in a team for a case study throughout the job, I have had hands-on experience to improve my skills such as in working with other people, my analytical skills when carrying out a task and my presentation skills when presenting to a senior member of the firm.
Business Insight
After the internship, I would definitely say my knowledge about the business and potential roles available within the industry and the firm has significantly increased. During the internship, I attended talks and panel sessions by numerous people across the firm, from various hierarchies and business areas. It was refreshing to hear the unique experiences of people, with some having been with the firm for decades and some only starting their career. Now, I definitely know more about what each role entails and how the job progresses up the career ladder in the business.
Culture
The company prides on its people culture and it was definitely shown throughout the internship. The people from the company was very welcoming, friendly and supportive throughout the programme. Everyone was so open to help each other in any way possible, no matter their seniority levels. The company's diversity and inclusivity initiatives are also impressive and they are working hard to achieve their goals. The firm holds numerous voluntary and community initiatives, and they have a company charity body - the EY Foundation.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the internship experience as I got the opportunity to learn about the firm and service line through different approaches and initiatives. There were talks explaining the main insights but I also had sessions with members of the firm where I could ask questions in a small group setting, which was very insightful, and more personal and genuine. I also enjoyed working with other fellow students in the internship as I could have a taste of what the colleagues in the firm would be like. However, it would have been more rewarding if I had the opportunity to do real audit work on an engagement project.
Yes
It is definitely a company you would want to consider as it offers so many amazing opportunities. Therefore, be sure to give your all and do your best at every stage of the application process. Prepare what you can, but most importantly just be confident and be yourself. For the interviews, you could prepare for the mainstream interview questions but what would be useful is to reflect on your past achievements and extra-curricular activities so you could use those experiences when answering the interview questions. In addition to that, you could think of the reasons you're interested in the role and the firm, and what you bring to the table. It would also help to read on current news and updates on the industry you're applying for.
