The Role
I loved my placement at Cancer Research UK - the people, my project and the general environment were all fantastic.
I felt part of the team from day one and never was never made to feel like 'the intern'.
My mentor was always there to answer questions about my project and the wider intern support network was great help for any other problems.
I feel I could have taken on slightly more work as I was not as busy as some of the other interns but I am pleased with the final outcome of my project, which might have suffered had I been given mroe work.
I was set my own project to work on for the duration of the placement, which gave me great experience of project managment and working to my own deadlines.
I feel I have improved on and developed some great skills in my placement here, which will no doubt help me in my career.
The Company
Being such a big office with so many people, there is always something happening or soemone to talk to.
The placement was very well structured with regular feedback sessions, CV training days and constant support.
My mentor took into account the skills I wished to develop at the start of my placement and incorporated them into the objectives that were set.
Subsidised Canteen
Healthcare/Dental
It is very dependent on the team you are in - unfortunately my team does not have any job going currently but if any do arise in the future I will be sure to apply.
The Culture
There was a great social scene amoung both the interns and my team with regular after work drinks and socials with the other interns.
Expensive because its in London but Cancer Research UK have a number of deals with local businesses that make it slightly more affordable.
Angel, Islington is a great place to be based as it is close to Shoreditch, Camden and Central London - all good palces for going out.
There were countless volunteering opportunities - at the London marathon, Wedding shows etc.
