yeah I have learnt the full job role of a trainee assistant merchandiser while being at Matalan. I have learnt skills about the job role than only working the job could offer me, university alone could not teach me what I have learnt this past year. its been very valuable to learn these skills.
Responsibilities
yes I was given full responsibility of my own departments within homeware. I did the exact same job as the other trainees in the business and I didn't feel like a placement student at all, rather a full member of the team.
Support & Guidance
I was given full support when starting the business and whenever I needed help, it was given to me straight away.
Culture
company culture is very welcoming and Matalan is a great place to work. very relaxed working environment and feel comfortable working there very quickly.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement with Matalan but due to COVID I am sad I didn't get to go in the office more and get to know the others employees better!

I would say to be friendly in the interview process. Make sure you know Matalan as a brand and what they stand for.
