    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The role does not have a day -to-day structure as such, with each day not having a reoccurring job. However, during a week there are 3 different reports to create and also the physical banking and printing of Cheques. There is also the month end process which runs from working day 1 to 8. This is the most structured part of the working month, with tight deadlines and reoccurring processes.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • New Skills: Working from home - this has been the main skill I have developed as 99% of my placement has been completed outside of the office environment. Presentation skills Learning new systems (eg. SAP) Business etiquette/ professionalism Developed skills: Excel skills - my excel knowledge has gone from very basic to high level intermediate. Analytical skills Confidence in my work/ ideas Team work - there has been multiple opportunities to work in undergraduate teams.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I felt like I had a lot of responsibility throughout my placement. I was responsible for organising my day and did not have to report back to my manager what I had done for the day, unlike some on my peers. Therefore, I believe the amount of responsibility you are given completely depends on how you act, and if you can prove you are up to the challenge.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Despite being on placement during the covid pandemic, I feel like I received a lot of support from my team, especially my line manager. The handover period from my previous undergraduate was also very well done, and I was in a very comfortable position before she left to take over performing the tasks.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 4/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • As I did not complete the majority of my placement in the office it is hard to comment on the culture. However, from having team meetings on Teams and getting to know the people in my company, there appears to be a good team dynamic when the office is open.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. Despite the pandemic I feel like I got to know my team extremely well, and managed to get involved in different projects and experiences. Obviously when I attended my assessment centre back in February 2020, I did not expect my placement to be virtual, my team have done their best to give me an enjoyable experience.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Honda Motor Europe
  • If you are applying for a placement role at Honda, just be yourself and let your personality shine through. Honda is all about finding a candidate with a good team fit, therefore show your personality at every opportunity. Also Honda does not offer a graduate scheme, however multiple undergraduates are now in full time employment with the company.
