Overview
I create signings and revenue forecasts & analysis in the form of the ES&iX weekly reports. The reports provide an overview of all potential signings along with the targets for each sector, service line and growth platform as a whole, allow us to identify where pipeline needs to be built and give visibility of the future sales possibilities.
Skills
There has been a wide variety of options for acquiring new skills during my time here. I have used the YourLearning platform to do over 70 hours of independent learning, focussed on both IBM qualifications and other skills. I have been able to take courses such as microsoft Excel courses to ensure I am equipped to do my best work in my core role. I have also developed my core role skills throughout my placement year
Responsibilities
I was given the responsibility to be part of client work which was very exciting. Having the responsibility of working directly with clients on a daily basis felt very rewarding and gave me the feeling that my work was important and a direct contribution to something. I was given the responsibility to lead meetings with sector leads and senior leadership team figures which was a big step up from just taking part in a meeting as i usually would
Support & Guidance
I had a task manager who was in charge of my everyday role and responsible for me on a daily basis. My task manager introduced me to my role and was responsible for teaching me my core role. I also had a Foundation manager who was someone that interns can go to for help with anything that they need, whether that was work related or not. Both my Task manager and foundation manager were very helpful and supportive of me during my year here
Culture
There is a big emphasis on the inclusivity which I think is great. In terms of working atmosphere and culture, there is an expectation of you to carry out your work to the highest level with guidance from your superiors, but you will not be 'babied' or 'carried' through it. This atmosphere promotes hard work and critical thinking to ensure you are always making the correct decisions. It was a very competitive atmosphere at IBM
Your Impressions
My internship at IBM was a great experience. I was given the opportunity to do a 12 month year in industry placement at IBM during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite only being in the office once, I was made to feel a valued part of the company, as well as settling into my teams and workspaces. I was part of the intern community where I ran multiple initiatives (especially during the covid-19 lockdowns) and was part of a great group of interns
Yes
Make sure to get across to the interviewer what you are interested in within the company. Let them know what areas of IBM's work you have a genuine passion for. Make sure to act and look professional. make sure you are are dressed appropriately for your interviews and assessment centres. This will help you make a good impression to those assessing you. Be yourself and allow your personality to be seen whilst staying professional and composed
