Overview
We have the morning to work on internal tickets raised by internal employees and then the afternoon would be used to work on our individual projects. 3 meetings are held in the week, Monday - meeting for what we have planned, Wednesday - what we have done so far, Friday - weekly roundup. Project work can rage to database management, improving the new user script and working on remote ways to deploy application to user pcs
Skills
I learnt how to write scripts in PowerShell, sql for database queries, created databases in Microsoft access, improve Microsoft 365 admin skills. Unfortunately, because the majority of the placement was working from home, I was unable to participate in hands on skills such as imaging new laptops.
Responsibilities
Egress puts a lot of faith and trust in their placement students. As an IT Operations placement student, we are giving a lot of responsibilities in things like creating new users, ensuring patches are up to date on pcs, disabling leaving users, ensuring updated versions of applications are installed
Support & Guidance
As we were working from home, we received alot of support from HR and fellow team members.
Culture
Egress has an excellent company culture and they really make you feel like your role in the company is very valued. Unfortunately, as we were working remotely, it was difficult to experience the office culture. However we did have weekly Friday evening quizzes and games nights which I really enjoyed and used as an opportunity to connect with people in different departments. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming.
Your Impressions
Given the circumstances, I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would definitely recommend it to fellow students. If your excel in your role, they may even offer you a role after your final year as the company is rapidly growing and is constantly on the look for emerging talent. Everyone from the CEO to HR to your fellow team members are very welcoming and do their best to make you feel valued
