Overview
Analysing NMR data, to answer a range of questions about structure and 3D conformation. Reporting results of analysis via online presentations to relevant project teams. Work on a number of different projects simultaneously.
Skills
I have learnt so much about NMR. My regular work involves NMR methods that I was not even aware of at the beginning of my placement. I have had many opportunities to attend online training sessions to develop my analytical skills in NMR and important software. My placement year has developed my both my personal and professional skills, making me more confident when furthering my career.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given responsibility and worked independently on NMR analysis. I was fully involved in a range of projects for which I attended regular meetings and regularly presented meaningful work for the team to progress drug development.
Support & Guidance
Everyone in my direct team and wider department were always accessible and provided support and guidance throughout my placement whenever I needed it.
Culture
Due to COVID-19 there was not able to be any social events and activities as there would have been usually throughout the year. Despite this everyone did their best to connect online.
Your Impressions
Despite COVID-19 having a big impact on the social aspect to my placement, I was lucky enough to be onsite and in the lab so I didn't miss out on any of the analytical components. I learnt so much whilst being here!
Yes
Always be yourself in the interview. Mine was two parts technical and competency/behavioural, and all the interviewers were supportive. There was some information provided beforehand for my interview, my advice would be to make the most of whatever you are given. Also for the technical part make sure you give all the answers that you think are relevant, don't stop because you have named a couple of examples if you know more.
