Overview
Analysis of drug products, either working in the lab to prepare and submit samples or in the office analysing data and writing up experiments
Skills
Learnt a range of laboratory techniques that I had either only learnt the theory of at university or not used to a very high level, including NMR, LC, LC-MS and dissolution. Developed skills in planning lab experiments and managing time, alongside scientific communication.
Responsibilities
Following initial training, I was left to work fairly independently and run experiments and manage my time on my own. I also completed my final year research project during my placement and had full responsibility over that (with help from my project supervisors).
Support & Guidance
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, many of the members of my team were working from home for the majority of the time I was on placement. However, I still received a medium amount of support from my supervisor and other team members, albeit it virtual.
Culture
Company culture was great, everyone was very friendly and happy to help. Didn't get the full experience due to the pandemic, as normally there would be more events to connect members of the wider department/company.
Your Impressions
Overall had a good experience and developed lots of both industry and personal skills that I will take forward into future roles. The company was good to work for and they ran events for other placement students to, which helped us to feel like part of the company.
Yes
Make sure you understand the company values as they are highly prioritised in the application/interview process.
