Overview
Typically, data analysis and experiments run side-by-side. You also spent a considerable time in meetings with your supervisor and wider team.
Skills
Data handling and data analysis skills. Presentation skills because there are a lot of opportunities to present if you want to although there's no pressure. Organisational and time management skills to make sure my experiments run smoothly.
Responsibilities
Yes. As soon as I was trained in anything, I was then doing it completely independently. I would set up and run my experiments independently, although you can always ask for help or a refresh if you need. I was even shadowed sometimes, so you're definitely treated as a colleague, not just a student!
Support & Guidance
A lot! My supervisors were really kind and always on hand to help out or show me how do something (multiple times if I needed!).
Culture
Very chill and calm. People are work-focused, but the teams are also really supportive and lovely!
Your Impressions
It was really interesting and I got to develop as a scientist
Yes
Stay calm on the assessment day! It usually involves some fun team-building activity, followed by two interviews. The first interview is a soft-skills one, and the second is science content based.
