Overview
The two week summer scheme allowed you get a better understanding of what working within that team as a graduate would be like alongside understanding more about the business and it's culture. On a day-to-day basis I was involved in sourcing comparables, helping draft valuation reports, inspecting sites and producing marketing information about upcoming sites.
Skills
I have developed a better understanding of the valuation process as well as the importance of having a strong valuation skill set as a surveyor. Alongside this, I have developed my report writing skills and learnt of the difference in style and tone that is required for a professional report in comparison to an academic report.
Business Insight
All the presentations were really helpful and engaging for understanding more about the business and its various different departments as well as the different roles that are available.
Culture
Everyone was more than willing to spend time telling you about their job and letting you get in involved in some of the projects they were working on so you could learn through first-hand doing. All the staff we very welcoming and made a great effort to ensure I got the most out of the placement.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed summer scheme, the only down side was that there were limited social occasions to get to understand the team on a more personal level - this was no fault of the business just unfortunate timing with the virus.
Yes
Try get across why you would like to learn more about the industry and how this internship would help you achieve your future goals and career prospects. Make your application very personal to you as well as the company. If you cover the company's name in your cover letter, you should be able to work out the company you are talking about.
