    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • On a day-to-day basis, this role mainly consisted of reaching out to various stakeholders of differing levels within GTRF to gauge a greater understanding of their specific role/job within the organisation. This was done through 30-minute meetings where I could ask many questions, as well as build a relationship with the stakeholder. Finally, I would use this information to correct job descriptions or finish projects, which would be presented to my manager.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've learnt and developed multiple skills including: Interpersonal Skills through forming strong business relationships by conducting and conversing in multiple meetings. Time Management by having to prioritise multiple intern and placement-specific projects (certain projects must be met by certain deadlines, whereas others extend throughout the internship). Emotional Intelligence and Self-Awareness by attending various workshops allowing me to understand how I act in different situations, alongside how others act around me - reacting and adapting.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Most of my roles were admin-type roles in support of my manager (for example, completing job descriptions or producing structure charts for the team). However, I was also given a project which involved handling confidential information, alongside speaking with various higher-level stakeholders. This involved great responsibility because I was reporting directly to my manager and had to complete this spreadsheet within a specific timeframe. The spreadsheet then went out to various stakeholders.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There's loads of support and guidance during your internship given by the Emerging Talent team. There are multiple platforms where you can learn new pieces of information depending on what interests you most. Furthermore, there are weekly targets to reach to expand on your self-development and commercial awareness. On the other hand, every intern is paired with a GradCoach and is part of an OPM group which creates a family-type-network, shwoing great support.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and general atmosphere are extremely friendly. Everyone within the organisation is happy to give their time up to speak to interns and everyone has the values of wanting to succeed together. I didn't meet a single person that wasn't willing to communicate with interns.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship, the roles and opportunities throughout as it really opened my eyes to what Commercial Banking really is. In addition, I have met so many people from different backgrounds with multiple previous experiences. This has rapidly increased my network and has given me friends for life. I would have preferred it to be in person, but hey ho, that's Covid.
