Overview
I am placed within the FST team which sits within COO. I am required to complete projects set by my line manager and present recommendations. I also have various intern projects to get involved in. There is also opportunity to complete learning to develop.
Skills
I have got a bit more comfortable with excel and developed more personal skills, however I have not developed any additional banking knowledge as a whole other than terminology used within FST.
Responsibilities
I had responsibility in the sense that I was able to present proposals and a few were acted upon during my time.
Support & Guidance
There was plenty of contact available from my line manager, GradCoach, team members. There was always someone to reach out for a specific issue.
Culture
The culture and atmosphere was positive but I feel workload used to increase all of a sudden in periods rather than be staggered. The last 2 weeks of the internship seem busy due to extra projects being assigned and some presentations that clashed.
Your Impressions
I relatively enjoyed my internship but expected it to be more wealth related rather than what I was placed in- it seems to be more retail banking based and not wealth which should have been made clearer. Also, there are 0 in person events organised directly by the intern team which is disappointing considering that restrictions were eased approximately 4 weeks prior to our internship ending. Also I was unable to go into the office.
Yes
Make sure to get a deeper understanding of the role at hand, as the job descriptions are often vague and the assessment centres are not overly technical/banking related.
