The Role
I have developed a range of skills throughout my placement such as team work and problem solving, which I will be able to carry with me in the future. These skills has developed me as a person and prepared me for working life in the future. I have been lucky enough to be involved in a variety of tasks, which has kept my work interesting and allowed for me to identify areas i perhaps do not enjoy as much.
The working culture here is very relaxed and all the colleagues I work with are more than willing to help. They are very approachable and have helped me to understand the market I work in. I do not feel like an "intern" and am soley responsible for a number of activities, where I pass on relevant information to members of my team, which they appreciate and trust.
My managers have been there the whole way throughout my placement and have helped me to get the best experience out of it. I have had regular reviews with them.
I honestly feel like I have had a perfect balance, I always feel busy in a working day and even at the beginning of my placement where I got to know my regular tasks and completed them faster, I took on more work and responsibility. Definitely a perfect balance!
I feel like I was given a lot of responsibility in a number of different tasks and all the routine work i do, I am responsible for ensuring I complete each cycle on time. I am completely responsible for the sampling process and feel like over the past 11 months, I have been able to make decisions alone.
I feel like I have developed a number of skills, which I could never have picked up at university such as problem solving in real life situations and managing my time to meet demands. These skills I can keep forever and adopt in my future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is generally quite quiet as most people are concentrating on their work. However, that has never stopped us taking a break when we want or having a social chat, which I often do with my manager.
Very well set up. I had over a month over lap with the old intern, where she guided me through the tasks and day to day activities that arise. I was able to ask "silly" questions and not feel embarrassed. I was very welcomed into the team by everyone.
They invested in me to take an excel half day course, which was necessary as I use excel on a regular basis. Other than that, it was not necessary for me to go on any other training, although if the option come up it would certainly be considered if justified.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
I am actually not too sure. With the economy as it is at the moment, I think for this year, they have had to cut down on recruiting, but there is definitely an opportunity for when I graduate. They have a good reputation for taking on at least a third of the interns once graduated.
The Culture
The interns have their own groups such as sports and social club, charity events, publishing team; all of which enabled trips such as dublin trip, nights out etc for all the interns. This meant a variety of activities to get involved in.
Cost of living is certainly affordable but as I am already from Swindon, I knew the area and lived at home for this year. There are lots of options and different activities to do with regards to socialising and the sports and social group organised a range of events for the interns.
Nightlife is ok, it's a great location as Bristol and London are not too far away so can easily travel there for a night out, however, as I already live in Swindon, I was used to the nightlife and always enjoy them.
There were endless opportunities, which were intern related and even Intel related. Great working culture!!!
