Overview
My day-day responsibilities included a mixture of my placement project work which included team meetings on Zoom and reaching out to relevant stakeholders. I also gained exposure to the day-to-day activities of a Relationship Manager within the Recoveries team and the type of work they were completing.
Skills
Communication and Networking: My ability to connect and chat to new people has greatly advanced. Presentation Skills: I have created several professional presentations and delivered them to my team.
Responsibilities
My role as an intern was to deliver a project over the 8 weeks which would assist the Relationship Managers contacting customers within their portfolio with greater ease. This involved reaching out to relevant stakeholders the access information and systems that I needed to complete the task. I was also tasked with helping out on a project of writing new letters which were to be sent out to customers.
Support & Guidance
A HUGE amount. The support from my manager was brilliant. She was regularly checking in with me and helping with any questions and queries I had as well as taking time out of her busy day to help me get up to speed on an industry I wasn't that familiar with when I joined.
Culture
The HSBC culture was an extremely positive and friendly one. A couple of years ago I completed a placement in a smaller engineering company (300people) and I felt more valued as an employee here as I did there. The general atmosphere was one where everyone was very approachable and eager to help out.
Your Impressions
The 8 weeks I spent at HSBC were amazing. I had a huge amount of fun getting to know the new people in my team as well as my fellow interns. The positive energy in the team meant that turning up to work was not a chore, but a fun opportunity to learn.
Yes
To be yourself. HSBC values difference so don't try to become someone you're not because that's not who HSBC are looking for. As long as you show your eagerness to learn and curiosity that's all you need.
