Overview
We arrived and were greeted, before having a welcome presentation by one of the Partners. Throughout the day, we took part in interactive presentations and networking sessions with the current trainees and senior lawyers at the firm.
Skills
I learnt a lot more about RPC's culture and how the firm is driven by its people and clients. I also had the opportunity to speak to senior lawyers about what they do on a day-to-day basis which was great for developing my confidence and understanding.
Business Insight
Everyone throughout the day was very transparent about what their role was in the firm and how they work as part of a wider team. They also took the time to explain their day-to-day in a simple way, so that those without legal experience could relate to them. This really helped when preparing my Training Contract application and interview, as I could understand where I could fit in the firm much clearer.
Culture
It was very friendly. We were always invited to ask questions and discuss our own ideas in the breakout rooms with trainees. It was also testament to RPC's culture that senior lawyers and partners spoke to in small breakout rooms to help us gain an accurate insight into the firm. The current trainees were also very friendly and complimentary of the firm which was reassuring.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the Insight Day! It spurred me on to complete the Virtual Experience programme and to apply for a training contract.
Yes
Make sure you spend some time really understanding the firm's culture and practice areas - the YouTube videos are great! Also, try to be fully yourself in the interview process. Ask questions you want to know the answer to, even if they're more about RPC's culture and people than the work they do.
