Overview
My role is extremely varied, no two days are the same, this is a great perk as your days are never mundane. I mainly complete design based tasks, whether it’s creating animations or graphically illustrating promotional content. I was allowed to lead on many projects, one of which was a explainer video, which is now displayed front and centre on the website. Additionally, I designed a video template to inform customers of our product updates, which is now implemented on a bimonthly basis. One task I do complete regularly is contacting customers for testimonials, this is very a rewarding job as I get to hear positive feedback about our product and the team here at Prospect.
Skills
Over the past 10 months I have radically developed my design skills. I’ve utilised new programmes such as Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro and these are tools I’ll definitely utilise going forward. Additionally, I have developed my understanding of a marketing departments functions as a whole and the importance of having a very clear USP and an individual brand voice. Following and extending the brand guidelines has illustrated to me how important maintaining our image is for brand recognition. I’ve also developed a lot of soft skills such as better time management and communication, for example having the confidence to suggest new ideas to my manager.
Responsibilities
The marketing department was only a small at Prospect, therefore your opinions hold a lot of weight and your ideas are always listened to. One example of this is when I suggested a redesign of our YouTube channel art, after some iterations this came to fruition and in fact lead to the rest of our social media channels being re-branded. You are treated no different to the full-time staff and given a lot of responsibly, for example you often are asked to lead tasks and given the freedom to explore different create avenues.
Support & Guidance
My line manager was always just a message or call away, so any questions I had, however small, always got answered promptly. Every day we have a morning meeting in which we could ask for any guidance on our current projects. Any new tasks would always be explained in great detail and managed online very well with any links or further information we’d need listed clearly.
Culture
Given the circumstances of Covid, ProspectSoft still managed to create a sense of community within the workforce. Our weekly Beer Fridays, where we would zoom call with a pint in hand, provided a chance for us to get to know the wider team. We did manage to have a couple of in person socials towards the end of the year and I know for a fact if this was a normal year we’d have far more events to attend.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my time at Prospect. I have loved having the freedom to express my design style when creating graphics for this company. I appreciate the ability to suggest new ideas, this can even extend beyond your department, as I put forward an idea for some product modification. This freedom to think outside the box and actually see your work being implemented has made me feel extremely valued within the workplace. In this team I’ve been recognised for my work on multiple occasions, I feel this is an experience you could only gain from an SME. I also enjoy the working style as it’s very relaxed because you can manage your time and decide what tasks to complete each day.
Yes
Make sure to include your extra-curricular, Prospect are more concerned with you as a person rather than your academic results. Just be yourself in the interviews, the more open and honest you are the more they’ll get to see your true personality.
