Overview
Working closely with teams on projects. Work varies from coding, excel to creating reports and deliverables. Day to day interactions with managers and associates.
Skills
Developed existing R, Excel and presentation skills. Also lots of opportunities to develop communication and soft skills. Learnt a lot of commercial awareness and what the role involves in different areas and grades.
Responsibilities
Yes a fair amount of trust and responsibility is given to interns with appropriate support. I was encouraged and trusted to work on tasks myself and to use my initiative whilst being assured of support and the opportunity to ask questions when unsure.
Support & Guidance
The support and guidance is strong throughout from the day to day interactions within project teams to the buddy and social group system which offers a wider and accessible support system.
Culture
The company culture is generally positive and supportive. All interns were involved in a volunteering project and diversity initiatives were visible and accessible. The vast majority of people are very willing to support you and take time to talk about their roles and experiences.
Your Impressions
Very much enjoyed the placement, although sometimes demanding, there was always support and there are so many opportunities to learn about both the work and the people.
Yes
Research goes a long way in the application process. Being able to speak somewhat on the culture and the initiatives within shows your interest and awareness of what you are signing up for. Being genuine and your passion comes across. Leadership doesn't always mean being the person who talks the most in the meeting!
