Overview
completely different according to the team and your personality I am really proactive so I run a morning report/mkt report every mroning + a mid day mkt comment + some comment during the day, I aldo write some trade ideas ; try to connect with the more people i can ; to run the desk project (one big project per rotation) and run the mkt wrap etc
Skills
developed existing ones, I would say. i mean, not a lot of interns have a financial background, I do. so i understand the concepts used on markets, i have a kind of minimal knowledge on all kind of products ... i improved my capacitities to link all of them, i would say.
Responsibilities
well, i think it is just not the idea of a summer internship. most of people don't have a finance -related background so you cant' expect trader to let you run orders on trading platforms basically. i think you're more dependent on their time schedule, how busy they are too.
Support & Guidance
my first team supported me a lot. really, they are still amazing and really kind. then it was different and, it was not what i would have expected, i feel really alone. and i love taking initiatives but if i need to be checked everytime and if nobody could do it ... then i'm more than useless and my work is worthless.
Culture
I had previous experience in the banking area, and banks cultures are definitively different. however, at UBS, i would say it really depend on the team as certain people will always help you (a big thank you to the delta 1, GFS and CFM teams) while for others, you will be in contact with only one or two people....
Your Impressions
I don't really know what my impressions are. they are mixed. due to the teams, cos to be honest, the tasks are not complicated, except the fact they would expect more from you if you have a financial background, which would make sense but should not deserve you. I felt a bit alone and from home, it was hard to contact traders and being in contact with them. i really recommend to UBS to run it differently cos, basically, traders were hardly available.
Yes
- contact as many people as you can, even if it's always hard to do so, - try to keep an eye on markets and ask interesting questions - be open minded - be proactive
