Overview
- Carried out work using powder x-ray diffractometers for a variety of means. - Developed skills of method-writing, time management and presentation. - Communication with supervisors about my work, and utilising their abilities to develop my understanding of what I am doing
Skills
- Learned many new software and respective instrumentation - Developed Excel skills - Developed communication, time management and presentation skills - Developed workplace safety, specifically laboratory safety
Responsibilities
- I always felt independent and like the work I was completing meant something - The work I was completing was useful and will help the company in future - Even projects that were not related to mine had their discussions made available to me.
Support & Guidance
- Any support or help I needed was immediately available - Any further knowledge I desired was available from the many subject matter experts - Any information outside of my project was available, all colleagues were willing to share the work they were involved in
Culture
- Everyone was very positive and encouraging, even if mistakes were made it was more about overcoming the issue rather than placing the blame on someone - Everyone was friendly and made me feel welcome in my early weeks, and this kindness extended to the entire year
Your Impressions
- Regarding the work, it was thoroughly interesting to me. Further, the feeling of independence and importance drove me to work hard and become involved. - Regarding culture, there was great effort made by everyone to create events that involved the wider team. These events were all virtual due to COVID, however Pfizer made a great effort to accommodate for this. - It was so much better than I expected and I would recommend them as an employer to anyone
Yes
- Be yourself and don't be afraid to admit when you don't know the answer - Pfizer are just as much about educating as they are about excellence. - It is clear that you need to work hard, however the appreciation and encouragement you get from others will drive you to do so. - I would have loved to have known how much I'd spend on coffee before I budgeted my salary.
